HP 40gs Virtual to Real Connection

What you need:

HP40 to VC

Important Notice: You must always plug in the HP 40gs Graphing Calculator via the USB Port first. And you should hear the USB detection ’tong dong’ sound to ensure that the USB driver is properly loaded. Take note of the specific USB Port you have plugged the HP 40gs into, as you will have to use the same port the next time. Then start the HP Virtual Calculator.

HP40gs Skin

Then start HP Virtual Calculator and check that you have preset HP 40gs ‘skin’.

To enable the HP Virtual Calculator to communicate with the physical HP 40gs you must ensure that it is corrected pointed to to it. Select Calculator > Preferences. This displays the HP Virtual Calculator Preferences window.

To able the HP Virtual Calculator to use the USB port to communicate with the real HP 40gs, choose HPx9G+ DEVICE from the Virtual USB Port drop-down list.

Click Save.

To transmit data or Aplet from the (Real) HP 40g Calculator to the HP Virtual Calculator.

On the HP 40gs:

1. Press [APLET].

2. Select the Aplet you want to transfer over.

3. Press {SEND} Soft Key.

4. Select ‘HP39 / 40 (USB)’ and press {OK} Soft Key.

On the HP Virtual Calculator:

1. Press [APLET].

2. Press {RECV} Soft Key.

3. Select ‘HP39 / 40 (USB)’ and press {OK} Soft Key.

Troubleshooting

Sometimes the USB port device driver do get confuse and communication between the HP 40g and the HP Virtual Calculator failure does arise. This cause either by a quirk in the HP 40gs USB chip, or the Computer USB driver software, or both. Once this has happened, the only way to reliably restore the connection is to apply the following Magic Rule Of Troubleshooting:

  1. Disconnect the HP 40gs calculator, turn it off.
  2. Go to the HP Virtual Calculator Preferences Menu and ‘Disable’ the Virtual USB Port, and then click the [SAVE] button.
  3. Exit the HP Virtual Calculator.
  4. Restart the Computer.
  5. Plug the HP 40gs back into the Computer and Turn On the HP 40gs. Wait for the USB’s ‘Tong Dong’ sound.
  6. Start the HP Virtual Calculator and go to ‘Preferences’ Menu and select ’ HPx9G+ DEVICE’ on the Virtual USB Port, and then click the [SAVE] button.

Not is is ready to transmit data or Aplet from the (Real) HP 40g Calculator to the HP Virtual Calculator, or vice verse.
