It is an amazing emulator, very accurate and functional. In the past I was using my HP15c for my engineering work but after my son took my calculator to solve his math exercises in the university, I remained helpless. I hate to use calculators with ALGEBRAIC notations so the free42 solved my problems..and I downloaded the BIN version into my XeIII palm and in this way I use it both in the computer and in my palm.
Thanks Thomas

Thomas,

Fantastic. I have and still use my 42S. Nice to have another one on my "desktop". Love that RPN. Good job.

To all who have asked me questions on this page recently:

I do not visit this website regularly, and I do not check for messages on this page with any regularity. If you have questions about Free42, it is best to visit my web site. In case the site itself does not address your questions, my email address is also there.

Regards,

Dear Sir,

I work intensively with 2 HP42S in my technical profession; so it seemed nice to have your free emulation on my PC. However, the file cannot be opened, neighter bij the software on my PC nor by searching the Internet. What can I do next ?
Thanking you in advance, with best regards,

Thomas,
Thanks for the reply. OK, I got the INPRT program running on my HP 48. I captured a program listing from the 42S in the 48, saved it as a variable and sent it over to the PC (whew!). I downloaded the txt2raw files, but when I run txt2raw.pl followed by my filename in the command line, all that happens is the txt2raw.pl script opens in textpad. What am I doing wrong? Do I need anything special to run the perl script? I´m running Windows XP.
Thanks,
Henry
In reply to Thomas Okken:
Hi Henry, The only way I know of to transfer programs from an HP-42S to anywhere is via an HP-48. There´s an HP-48 program called INPRT that can capture the 42S´ printer output and save it as text; this text can then be converted to "raw" files using the txt2raw program (available on my web site), and the "raw" files can then be imported into Free42. The format of the "raw" files used by the Import Program and Export Program commands is the same format as programs are stored internally in the real HP-42S; this format is also supported by Emu42 (another HP-42S emulator) and several HP-41 emulators. If you want to save a program so that you can re-load it later, you should use the Export Program command and archive the "raw" files generated by it; to create a human-readable copy, use the "Print to text" option in the Preferences, and then use the PRP command. I hope this helps; feel free to drop me a line if you need more assistance. - Thomas

Hi Thomas, I like your 42S emulator very much. I have several 42´s and have several programs for them. Is there a way to transfer a program already keyed into a 42 into the emulator? Also, what file format are the emulator programs in? I keyed in a simple program and exported it to file; I can print the program into the "Print-Out" screen, but I cannot read the file created from the program. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks, Henry

olá a todos!

Ao entrar na GV, precisava de uma calculadora científica e assim, a 42s foi a minha primeira HP. Nela fiz vários programinhas úteis...há tempos...

Hi Thomas, Thanks for your note and the update of your super emulator. I have just downloaded your latest update and post it. Also created an "About" page with a link to your web page. Good luck and stay in touch.
In reply to Thomas Okken:
Hi, Could you post the latest release of Free42? Later releases have the URL of the Free42 home page in the "About" window, so people can easily find out where to look for bug fixes etc. Also, there have been a lot of new features and bug fixes since the version you have now (1.0.12). Thanks! - Thomas Okken (Free42 author) P.S. The Free42 home page is at http://home.planet.nl/~demun000/thomas_projects/free42/
