16 years behind bars for stealing a calculator

Mr. Haley was sentenced in 1997 to 16 years in prison for stealing a $50 calculator from a Texas Wal-Mart store.    The Supreme Court refused (3 Apr 2004) Monday to free him.  He has served more than six years in prison for the theft - Texas, USA.   Wow the law is hard on him!
