Steve, the electronic manual (HP50g_user´s guide_English) really expands on the brief instructions in the printed manual. Another really good electronic manual is the 48g49gadvanced_manual. Most of the commands for the 50g are identical to the 49g, so it´s worth getting. You can download them both from hpcalc.org.

The hp50g is really a fine calculator in terms of power, ease of reading (both screen and keyboard), and general feel of operation. However, hp falls to the side of the road when it comes to documentation and the use of the 50g. The manual that comes with the unit is almost of no value, except to turn the calculator on and perform a few operation. There is a third party manual that at least gets you "into the woods" but very short on getting you "out of the woods" when it comes to graphing functions and many other operations. The only avenue remaining is to call their tech help. That source runs from "very very good" to "I think I know what the explanation was". I think they are all highly trained but some are better at explaining things than others. So, if you get the "good guy" you can take the next step. Speaking for myself, I´m in business, and time is money, and I find that I have to set a segment of that time aside to learn the next operation. I would rather have a user friendly, well written manual (I´d be happy to pay extra for a good manual) and do my learning in the evening.

Question:
Where can i get the software shown on the display of this HP50g calculator?
It is about the beam calculations.

In RPN mode, enter the UNITS menu (right-shift 6).
Now enter the number 89 and press the "cm" soft key (F2). The display will show "89_cm".

To convert to inches, press left-shift F6 (in). The answer is 35.03937...
In reply to KeithUSB:
Can anyone tell me hoe to use the unit conversion. I wanted to convert 89cm to inches.

Yes, go to www.hpcalc.org. Search surveying programs. There is one COGO program that is quite good.

2 Gig, but will not show its capacity vs a 1 Gig actually will show up properly. There is less than a hundred meg of programs presently available, and actually nearly any capacity will hold all of the software that is worth putting on the calculator.
In reply to DAT:
Does anybody know the maximum SD card capacity that will work in the HP50G ?

ok tnx for d nfo,i want to buy hp-50g,but im here at UAE is there any HP center or retailers here selling this item?if not where i can buy?how much?including shipment?
In reply to Ron:
The Hp 50g is NOT restricted to single variable names and can literally store variables up to it RAM limitations. This simply means longer variable names take a bit more memory than shorter names, but you can have hundreds, if not thousands of variables. RPL is more of a keystroke programming language than the Hp BASIC you are probably refering to, both do work, but most programmers use RPL on this machine. Goto´s or their similar function are not really limited except by memory, not any predetermined value.

and i use this to apply to my Hp50g i just bought,
i wish to know how to be able to some thing above
where header is next to "User" mode is
EX: i want to write a word "Schedule1"

There are a couple of sites if you google. However you can also go to Hp´s own calculator site for some training sections on how to use the Hp50G as well. Aside from the programming, if you learn to use the solver, you may never need to program. Simply write your equation in the EQW, enter, give it a name, then store. Then hit the solver and select your eqw name and Voila, you will be able to solve that algebraic equation. The secret to becoming good at programing the Hp50G is to convert over to RPN so that the RPL programming becomes more natural. Otherwise you will have to do the crippled BASIC that is not as well integrated as Ti´s BASIC. However, the use of the EQW can substitute for a lot of programming. Also you can make use of the DEFINE function as well. Another way to avoid extensive programming.

Can anyone tell me if the flag settings still apply if you are in User mode? Also, on my 48SX, I have a keystroke that is programmed to bring up my custom menu, and lock the calculator in User mode, but I am having trouble with getting it to work on my new 50g. Any ideas?

had 48G, 49G, and now have 50G. 50G has the best features and program capabilities but, like 49G the keyboard broke easily. 48G has the best keyboard. anyone has same broken keyboard issues after a few months of use ?

Hello guys:
i recently bought a brand new HP50G and although i´m impressed by it´s capabilities i still cannot think of disposing of the HP42S i was using. the HP42S has it´s notable limitations i agree but i think it´s one of the greatest and dependable(faithful) calculators HP ever made. Any comments? Any replies, my e-mail is cfortuh@gmail.com

augh come on hp guys...where´s the alpha numerical caoabilities the old hp 42s had 20 years ago...bring it back...bring it back...bring it back! we in the engineering field need to be able to save variable by their actual name...and the menu function...where did that go...we need hp to produce the best calculators again with that great support you used to offer...

the new and improved hp50g...maybe...but i´d rather have a new hp42s right out of the box...

thanks for letting me vent!

Hi! Can anyone tell me if the keyboard on the 50G is made better than it was on the 49G+? I bougth the 49G+ two years ago, and was very desapointed over the poor keyboard, and returned it to the store. Many others had problems with the 49G+ at that time.
So does anyone have comments, have hp solved the problems on the new 50G?
Thanks. Martin.

I was looking at www.tdsway.com - only list HP48GX, so I don´t think they have ported to HP49g or HP50g. They have TDS COGO for Pocket PC as their next generation of products.
