I came upon a new, in-the-box, HP-19B-II Business Consultant at a garage sale last month. The calculator was brand spanking new! The original batteries were still in the calculator, so I replaced them with new ones only to find that the unit did not power up. I had an inkling that it was a power problem but totally clueless as what to do to remedy the situation.

After reading the short method of clearing the internal memory and resetting the calculator, I figured what the heck since I had nothing to lose. It took two paper clips (rounded at the ends so as not to get caught in the spring clips for each battery cavity). The paper clips were then joined for a few seconds, the new batteries were installed...and...(drun roll, please!)...tada! The unit fired up perfectly.
Whew, am I glad I took some extra time to visit this site. One never knows what treasures will befall them for just browsing around.

I had not used my 17B II for over one year and the batteries had run out during that time. With new batteries it did not start up. I tried discharging with a coin and it still does not work.
Is there anything else I can try? Thanks.
