HP Celebrates 35th Anniversary of HP Calculators with Video Contest
As part of a its 35th anniversary in the handheld calculator business, this week HP kicks off a nationwide contest inviting entrants to submit short YouTube-like videos to share their enthusiasm and experiences with, put together a documentary regarding or create a commercial about HP calculators. With this contest, HP is hoping to capture and communicate HP calculator users’ loyalty and enthusiasm to a new generation of online users.
As HP founder Bill Hewlett personally challenged his engineers to develop the first handheld scientific calculator, HP calculators will always hold a special and nostalgic spot in HP’s history. This year, HP is celebrating 35 years in the handheld calculator business after introducing a product that virtually displaced the ubiquitous slide rule. HP’s success in the market is based both on technology innovation as well as the legendary enthusiasm and loyalty of its users.
Contest details and prize information
A panel of judges will review each video and determine winners based on originality and creativity (25%); adherence to theme (25%); overall appeal (25%); and each of the following (25%): best actor, best actress, best screenplay, best technical film. Two Grand Prize winners will be selected for each of these categories totaling eight Grand Prize winners. All Grand Prize winners will attend an awards ceremony in Hollywood, and their videos will be posted on hp.com where visitors will view and vote for the best overall video and winner of the Voters' Choice Award.
Grand Prize: All eight Grand Prize winners will each receive a trip for two to Hollywood to enjoy red carpet treatment at the HP Golden Calculator Awards ceremony on Thursday, July 12. Trip includes round-trip air transportation, hotel accommodations for 3 days/2 nights, and ground transportation to and from the airport, hotel, and awards ceremony. Winner of the HP Golden Calculator Voter's Choice Award will receive a 50-inch HP Plasma HDTV (retail value: $2999.99).
